If you follow wOOw city posts about what is on in your city, you will notice a change in how they read. Since 24 October, the captions are built to make it easier to see what is happening and easier to join in.
A hook in the first line
Each caption now opens with the essentials: what is happening, when, and where. You should be able to read one line and know whether it is worth your evening or weekend, without scrolling for the details.
One prompt at the end
Every caption closes with a single prompt, chosen to suit the format of the post. It is either a question or a tag-a-friend invitation. The idea is simple: the best plans usually start with someone saying “shall we go?”, and a prompt makes that easy to do in the comments.
A short, local set of hashtags
Captions now carry three to five hashtags, picked with care instead of piled on. They are:
- #woowcity, so you can find all our posts in one place
- two tags for the city itself
- one genre tag, such as the type of event
- one weekend tag
This keeps captions tidy and makes it easier to find what is on in your own city.
Numbered cards in the weekend carousel
The weekend carousel, our swipeable round-up of what is on, now has numbered cards. That means you can answer by number. If card 3 is the one you fancy, say so in a comment, or tag a friend and tell them which number caught your eye.
Why it helps
Listings are useful, but a plan is better when it is shared. These changes are meant to turn a quick glance at a post into a conversation: with friends about where to go, and with others in your city about what they are looking forward to.
For organisers and venues, it also means events featured on wOOw city are presented in a clear, consistent way, with the key details up front.
Still being tested
We are comparing the new caption style with the previous one, alternating between them, and looking at how people respond to each. What we learn will shape further changes.
